“Sleeping with my cats..”

Crafting

For a secret santa gift, I bought a cushion cover online and hand painted the giftee’s lovely cats on there, so he could love both his actual cats and their images ☺️

Needless to say, the gift was well received 👍 and was a nice way to do something personal.

Halloween werewolf puppet head

Crafting

In 2016 I helped out at my local puppet studio with a Halloween half-term class for kids aged 4-6. The class helped the kids make a hand-held spooky head and arm attached, which they could use to make a puppet show for their parents later that day.

It inspired me to make my own version. Alas, it took me a while to finish as life got in the way, but it’s finally done and looks great!

Lifelong Travel Map

Crafting

In an effort to track and celebrate where we travel to, I created our very own lifelong travel map. Durable (for future moving) and editable, this is what you’ll need:

  • A laminated map of the world (I bought mine for £13.99 on eBay.co.uk)
  • Images of your face (and others if required)
  • Simple image manipulation skills (I use a program called GIMP – it’s free, and relatively easy to use)
  • Sticker maker (I printed mine through a company called Moo for around £5.00 for a sticker book of 100)
  • A craft knife
  • Patience and imagination

Open your face images on GIMP or another image manipulation program, and make the background transparent. On GIMP, it’s called Adding an Alpha Channel, you can watch video tutorials online (I know I did!). Save those images as jpgs.

Once happy with the size, upload them on Moo.com into a sticker book and check you are happy to buy.

Once you have bought your world map and stickers, simply craft knife cut around your heads and you are ready to stick! This map is an ongoing project, and the more places we visit, the more heads we stick on!

Roy Lichtenstein DIY Prints

Crafting

My sister when asked who her favourite actors were, gave me a great idea. I set out with the task of creating personalised wall art in a Roy Lichtenstein/Pop Art style, of her favourite actors. Here is what I used:

  • Posca Paint Pens (multiple, including thin and thick black)
  • A TV for tracing (needs chromecast ability, or a laptop to connect)
  • A3 good quality paper
  • A pencil
  • A mobile phone using the app Prisma, and choosing Roy filter
  • A good quality B&W photo of your actor/tress
  • Imagination & determination

Once I had found my B&W image, I put this into the app Prisma. Choosing the Roy filter, I then streamed this image to my TV using chromecast. Then I taped the paper on top of the TV and began tracing with pencil.

When this was completed, I filled in the colours using what I wanted and by roughly following the Prisma sketch.

After, I added some speech bubbles (style consistent) with personalised speech/thoughts!

Customised Pumps & T-Shirt

Crafting, Uncategorized

For my family’s birthdays (All in June & July), I made them each a personalised item.

For my brother and sister (8 and 6), they got dragon and leopard pumps.

For my step-mum and Dad, funky shoes and a music t-shirt based on my Dad’s favourite artists. They turned out pretty well!

To make them I used:

Plain white pumps (bought on ebay)

A plain black cotton tshirt (ebay)

Posca paint pens

An iron
